The Company of Cats

cats2

It's raining today in Los Angeles and things are really unsettled at work. I'm relying on old comforts: the touch of warm hands of loved ones and the weight of my giant cat Coco draped on my shoulder. I couldn't resist putting together this little collage of black cats. We have two of them, Coco and Kali (named after the Indian goddess of destruction). They are my constant companions.

Everyone have a wonderful day!

(Photo credits, link backs and more wonderful pictures of cats on my I Heart It page.)

UPDATE! A comment from my husband posing under the name "Tiburcio" "I love cats, too. Except for those really needy cats that sit in front of their food bowl, bitching and crying to be scratched. I'd just like to say to those cats: "Hey, you're not the only one with problems! Why don't you try to do something productive around here instead of just spitting hair balls all over the place?"

(He's joking, by the way. He's a cat man.)

I think that one of the things that makes a cat such a comforting companion is that while they're so clearly their own creature, they still want to be close to us. Something in that somehow makes you feel better about yourself.

I love cats. I've had cats of my own for 16 years. But right now I'm cat-less. I've made the supreme sacrifice and let my 2 significant others have a dog.

Beautiful as the dog is, she lacks that sensuality and litheness that cats have.

Tina, Ms. Muse: I've put you on my blog roll (yours is a favorite daily visit of mine). Would you consider adding me to yours?

(I feel like I'm in grade school, asking you to be my friend ;)

One of my recent posts listsl 25 random things about me and one of them lists the 6 cats that I have had in my life. I miss them all for different reasons. I hate to name favorites but Twinkle, my first all black cat was the joy in my life. Whenever I was poorly in bed, he would not leave my side, even to eat. I am also cat-less due to husband being allergic.

tina, i remember your stories of the cats you & hugo had before you married. i still get a kick out of the one where they climb out of the house thru the chimney & you come home from work & they are both in the front yard!!

Oh, that was so funny! i couldn't figure out how they had gotten out of the house! i figured the landlord had let them out...then one day i saw them go into the fireplace and up the chimney.

Tina, I have been following your blog for a few weeks now. I'm a newbie blogger and have been setting up. Taking me forever, unfortunately. I really love your photography and writing. Thanks for bringing such lovely reading time to so many.

Hugo, I know this is you posing as Tiburcio. Be nice about our lovely -- altho sometimes finicky -- cats. It's part of their nature to be divas.

and to spit up hairballs.

Tina, I love your site and when I found that you loved cats I was hooked. I signed up to follow...I would love for you to link to me too. I have paintings of cats which I am in the process of posting. Have two little furry girls of my own too. What could be better?
