Farmers Market

Tulips
Hello everyone. Happy Saturday. My daughter and I had a marvelous morning at the farmers market in Pasadena. Like most of the open air markets in the Los Angeles area, the farmers come from all over Southern California to sell their produce. As usual, I bought more flowers than vegetables. I can't resist!

There was a fantastic selection of tuberoses (which remind me of my friend Sara Catania, who always had the fragrant flowers in her ocean facing apartment in Ventura.) I also bought bouquets of red tulips, red ranunculus and mulit-colored roses. (My daughter, Isabella, and I arranged them in old pottery vases while listening to Ella Fitzgerald!)

Also brought home in our basket and bags: Fresh salmon, French bread, a huge ripe tomato, leeks for soup, a mix of salad greens and beautiful blood oranges. We're going to have dinner in the back garden this evening!

The only thing better than your dinner and the surroundings will be the company. Enjoy.

That sounds like a perfect day! I can't wait for the weather to warm up so that I can do the same. The flowers are gorgeous!

Hello, my dear. Your trip sounds lovely. I hope you did make those cocktails with the blood oranges. They're on sale here, too, but I bought mine at WFoods. The farmer's market is tomorrow. Friends sent me some $ on Friday & said: spend on something you want. So I bought some wine (usually it would be flowers but...bad news in Sudan as you know...worried & I still have a hyacinth, mini-roses, tuberoses-- I forced them inside. Hope to buy yellow something-or-other tomorrow (Sunday) as it's Int'l Women's Day & celebrated widely in Europe. Mostly when I've been abroad on 8 March, I've been in Italy. Yellow mimosas for all (& female friends & relatives give them to each other, too. not just men as you read in a lot of articles). I doubt I'll find mimosa but any yellow flower will do.

Glad you had fun & brought in such a great haul & had Isabella with you, too. Keep taking those Polaroids. xo, Susan S.

I've been meaning to go to a farmers market for such a long time, but I feel like I'm not hip to the dates/locations. ;-)

(I totally would buy more flowers than produce, too, because I <3 the flowers!)

Oh god, I am reminded of my childhood in Santa Cruz and the flea market at the old drive-in, where there were farmers selling bags of oranges off the truck. So gorgeous... nothing like we get in Ireland. I am dead jealous! It sounds like you were in for a lovely evening!

I was at that market too - it would have been lovely to run into you. I was too distracted by the fractally amazing romanesco, and the first truly delicious asparagus and strawberries of spring, to even notice the flowers. My own myopia, I suppose.
