Natasha Richardson

I'm feeling so very sad this evening about her passing. She was a wonderful actress and person. Positively luminous....I was fortunate to have met her at a charity event recently in Hollywood. She was there with her mother.

One of my dear friends knew the family very well. She sent me this email tonight: "Liam and Natasha were very much in love--he thought of himself as a kind of jumped up Irish tough and she was theatrical royalty and he often called her 'my princess.'"

Sigh...My heart hurts for her family.

(The story by my colleague John Horn on the LAT website.)

Thank you for the post. As I wrote to you, I saw her so many years ago on stage in her first NY play...she was absolutely lovely.

I can't help but think of how her mother became friendly with Joan Didion a few years ago when they staged The Year of Magical Thinking. Though JD's daugher's death was not actually in the book, of course they talked about it a lot. They seemed to have bonded in their relationship as mothers. And now, Vanessa has lost a daughter as well. It can happen so quickly. Very upset.

She was a brilliant actress. Everyone knows her mother, of course, but her father is probably the most unfairly neglected film director of his generation. Our hearts can only ache for her husband and sons.

Yes, her father is neglected not only as a film director but writer as's awful for all of them. I cannot imagine watching Love, Actually next Christmas. Awful.

So unbelievably tragic.

What a crazy circumstance, as well. Out here in Colorado, I'm used to hearing about deaths from skiing, but usually from someone jumping a 60 foot cliff or extreme skiing. Not someone learning how to ski, with an instructor. It must be beyond devastating for her poor family.

This story is incredibly upsetting. There are no words to make it less devistating, although the words of your friend's email are so touching.

I am rendered absolutely speechless by her passing. I just cannot believe it and under such strange circumstances. What a tragedy and such a profound loss. I cannot imagine the pain her family is suffering right now. My heart goes out to all of them. Just tragic.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting either Natasha nor Liam, but I feel such heartache for Mr. Neeson and his children, and the whole family. I've been reflecting on how brief and tenuous and lovely life is, and how quickly it can all change. I found myself holding my partner tighter than usual last night.
Natasha was one of the most beautiful women and a shining light, and I miss her already.

I didn't realize this was Natasha Richardson! When I heard the news, I pictured someone else. Where I used to live in Pasadena, CA a few years ago - I saw her at a cafe I was at for breakfast, and she was there with friends a few tables away.

So sad. I will keep her family in my prayers.

Tragedy is the only word that fits what happened to Natasha Richardson and her family. She is the cousin of a family friend and we were heartbroken when we found out. I just can't believe it... events like this make everyone step back and examine how precious life is and how every moment can't be taken for granted. Please keep her family in your prayers...

I know, this makes me so sad. After my daughter's close call this past month, I have been thinking a great deal about the fragility of life - how quickly it can slip through your fingers, when you're least expecting it. It seems impossible...unthinkable. And it's the people that love the most who are left behind to suffer the vacuum of the passing. Life is a strange and fickle thing.
