Sunday

23

My dears, I hope you're having a wonderful Sunday. What are you up to today? I've been reading the Sunday papers and drinking coffee. (Three cups! Too many champagne cocktails last night!) Now I'm getting ready to head off to the flea market at the Rose Bowl. I'm going on a bit of a treasure hunt. I want to do a plate wall and I absolutely need your advice in that regard. Will show you what I found when I return!
Have a lovely day!
xoxo

I love plate walls, especially the one artist Lisa Congdon did in her kitchen: http://www.designspongeonline.com/2008/04/sneak-peek-lisa-congdons-kitchen.html

Happy hunting!

I've been obsessing over Lisa Congdon's plate wall!! I've studied it like it somehow holds the secret to life's happiness. She has a brilliant eye. Plate walls, photo walls and art walls are one of decor's most complicated puzzles.

Your Twitter is cracking me up. I hope the champagne headache was totally worth it.

Yay to a plate wall! Definitely scope out Flickr for inspiration ... I feel like I've seen a few really great Lisa Congdon imitations out there, with individual twists of course. Have a blast at the Rose Bowl.

I think harmonious variety is the key to a plate wall. . .unless you're doing those marvelous handpainted things from the south of Italy. They just do it all. . .but it's hard to always be that cheerful. I adore vintage Imari and, of course, blue and white. You have to be careful there, though, since even Oscar Wilde said he "found it hard to live up to my blue and white china." I adore those handpainted ones from the turn-of-the-century that you can find in flea markets. Ladies in those days bought blank plates from catalogues and painted them as a hobby, sometimes in clubs. They're devastingly charming without being precious. Oh God, my obsession with plates is revealed. Kisses, kisses and more kisses.

I absolutely agree with you on Lisa's plate wall. I think it does hold the secret to life's happiness. I, on the other hand, have yet to create a plate, photo or art wall that would satisfy me. What does that say about me?:) Maybe people's plate walls should become "readable", like palms. I think that would be completely insane, but somehow fantastic at the same time. What do you think? Good luck with solving the puzzle.

And, did I say how much I like and appreciate you blog? It's truly lovely and inspiring.

oh my gosh--I'm going to have to save this photo for that far off day when I have lots of money and my own home so that I can have a room just like this!!

I have been celebrating my bday tomorrow all day today! I went for a two hour stroll with my daughter and in 15 minutes we are going out to my favourite bbq joint for ribs and french fries. Today I am not worrying about diet.

Ooo a plate wall? This I have to see. :)

And I do love a good flea market. We have three in the surrounding area. Great places for original, ecletic pieces.
