Goodbye Sweet Dog

We had our little dog Murphy for more than 12 years. He was a rescue dog, so we were never really sure how old he was. But he was without a doubt a member of our family. He had been sick for awhile and over the weekend he passed. The house isn't the same without him. Missing him now, so much.

Hurts.

Last year something tragic happened.
At the high school I go to,
a fight broke out between two groups.

A friend of mine Jai, got caught up in it.
A guy I vaguely know pulled him off another kid.

The guy wasn't aware of his own strength, and threw our gorgeous Jai into a brick wall.
He suffered severe head trauma and had a seizure.
I did not watch the fight, but people say some horrible things.

My beautiful Jai died later that afternoon after being airlifted to hospital.
His funeral was public, as his death had affected the entire community and country; making national news.

I've never owned a dog, so I can't know what's your going through.
But I know what's it is like to lose a dear friend.

My deepest condolences.
x

my condolences at your loss. we just almost lost ours, he got stolen and that too by a wicked neighbour but thankfully after much drama was retrieved, but for those many number of days it did seem we had lost him forever. i know nothing can make up for your loss but maybe someday you will be ready to get one home and cherish the memory of Murphy while nurturing the new one.

oh man, my thoughts are with you. when our little cairn terrier passed (thankfully she became sick and passed just three weeks) my father came home to find my mother taking a long, warm shower, with a glass of red wine on the floor next to her--this is how he knew she was upset (and my mom was not this dog's biggest fan. i still come home after like three years and expect to see her running outside.i hope it gets easier and you feel better. lots and lots of love to you from the east coast.

Thank you for sharing your sense of loss with such eloquence and sincere simplicity. I feel favored by fate to find myself in a community of women able to respond in kind, as so many have here. I, too, have had my losses and all I can say is that the sense of absence we feel is love, which is its own kind of immortality. Every expression of love, even in sorrow, strengthens us in mysterious ways. Remember Murphy for the joy he brought and you will have him with you forever.

I am so sorry for your loss. We have a beuatiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Tilly, who is 14. She came to live with us while we were in England, but only after extensive interviews to make sure we were the "right" sort of people for her. We all love her.

Over the years we have said goodbye to many four legged members of our family, it is never easy.

I am sure that a part of Murphy will remain with you and your forever. The silence they leave behind can be so deafening.

Sending warm thoughts your way - thank you for sharing your loss with friends, known and unknown, on your blog.

hi!
My heart goes out to you...we lost a dog I personally rescued from the corner of Beverly and Western in LA 15 years ago....(I followed her up Western for a mile and a half.....with my husband following me at 10:30 at night! (he was expecting a mugging any second) She was the best dog I have ever had. And they know they are rescued!

The Lange Foundation in Los Angeles is the best rescue shelter. I hope you will consider adopting another rescue.
It is an unusual rescue shelter.

I gave a rescue (not the actual dog, but a donation to save a dog that they do) to my next door neighbor, Oprah, and she did a whole show on the shelter, and its founder!

She actually said my name....and that it was the "best present she had ever received!"

look at www.langefoundation.com.
My husband was so shattered (I thought I would be worse than he.....but he took it the hardest)

We got another dog of a similar mix, and it has helped: not to replace, but to have another experience with the love of a wonderful dog!

(We have two, and the other one was shattered too!)

Good luck! And God Bless you for rescuing! There are so many great dogs in shelters...needing loving owners like you!

ps love your blog and your ebay store!

oh, thank you so much for your wonderful comments. made me cry. we definitely want to get another rescue dog. murphy was rescued by a lovely woman -- a nurse at Huntington Hospital -- who found him wandering around south Los Angeles. She placed an ad in the paper seeking a home for him, and that's how we found him.

two years later, we ran into this lovely woman again: she was one of the nurses attending to the birth of our daughter, Isabella. It was a complicated birth and she was a great help and comfort to us.

its funny how the universe works.

i want to believe there's a heaven for animals, especially animals who never find homes.

I supposed just try to be thankful for the 12 years you shared. that's a pretty good run - especially if he may have been older. take care!
