Is there hope for Polaroid?

Polaroid fans had so much hope last year when Urban Outfitters teamed up with the Impossible Project to restart the production of Polaroid film. But today, project officials sent out a cryptic email saying the effort hit a snag. They had set Feb. 22 as their deadline. It's now been pushed back to March 22.

Anyone out there know what's going on? Are you guys still using Polaroid film? I was very upset to read recently that even Jen at My Polaroid Blog was struggling to find film...I have six packets of 600 left in my refrigerator. I thought I had a new source on eBay, but so far nothing...

Maybe mid-year will bring new hope?

yeah, i keep coming across conflicting stories. most recently i read that even if the impossible project does succeed {whenever that may be}, the new pola film will be outrageously expensive.

i used to use my polaroid all the time when I was younger for silly pics and projects, if only i'd saved some!

I did hear a rumour that a dutch company were going to make an equivalent film but not sure if that has materialised.

It's very weird that should post this today because I went to my local urban Outfitters today to pick up more film. Here in vancouver they have had plenty of film for months, every time I go, there seems to be more. They had hundreds of packs.
Today, it was all gone.
I was only there 2 weeks ago and now suddenly it just disappears.
I am heart broken and on the hunt. I've never had to search for it like this before.
Oh and Polapremium are out of 600 :(

I never had a polaroid camera, but I've always really wanted one! I can't wait to see what they come out with, because that may just be my solution!

You can still get polaroid film in the store where i work, but its hideously expensive. (36.95 Australian $$ for a pack of 10)and its all out of date.
Apparently there is a warehouse somewhere where they store it all and they dole it out every now and then, hiking up the price as they go.

I got that email today too. Not very reassuring. I get my film from polapremium.com, but I do think much more carefully about every shot I take now.

i wish i had more film....alas we shall have to wait.

there is definitely a market for it, so i don't see why they wouldn't make it.

I can't wait to go to polopremium. looks promising. I got lucky a few weeks ago when I discovered that the law firm I worked for used to use polaroid cameras to take pics of accident sites. I asked for the extra film (12 packets!) and my boss said "sure it's all but worthless now." I almost retorted "NO SO!" but kept my mouth shut and made off like a bandit with my steal

my local CVS still has tons for some reason...and I've found some sellers on Amazon...but geez in a matter of months, the price has doubled and tripled!!!! i really hope something is going to happen!

Don't worry - this kinda thing always happens with polaroid and anything pr anyone seemingly related ie polapremium, impossible project etc. I bet my last buck that they just want to sell off the last of, or most of their current stock.

It'll be fine.

Is this news for you or old news. I wonder? The Independent is a national newspaper and is usually reliable.
Have searched UK sites for you, but no luck so far ...

I shoot polaroid film and got a shipment from polapremium.com just after Christmas. I'm still slowly using it and hopefully the Impossible project will have their film out before I run too low. *crosses fingers hopefully*

oh you have 6 packs left?? Im down to my last. The only 600 film Ive been able to find is like $36 a single pack, everywhere else is sold out. I'm getting an Instant Back for my Diana+ and going to try that out to keep me going.

hmm...that email is really cryptic! I thought they had it figured out! does this mean when my 12 packs run out I'll have to pay $30 a pack at Urban?!? this saddens me :(

ooh, I hope so! I really wish I kept our old Polaroid. I thought it was the most amazing invention EVER. I still kind of think it is. The hell with you, sliced bread... or you, fire. Who needs you!

http://polapremium.com definitely the place to find some. Just got some film the other day. Although their supplies have dwindled quite a bit recently. A lot of people have been freaked out by that email that went out. My understanding is that it was a snag in shipping from one of their suppliers (whatever that means). And as for price of the new film, from some of the interviews/articles I've read from the The Impossible Project, makes it sound like the film will be between 15-20 dollars, a little more expensive then what it was originally but not as bad as the mark up on the expired stuff.

oh i'm crossing my fingers that things work out... i'm anxious to use my polaroid camera again, and i'm all out of film! :(

I am hoping this Polaroid scare is just a marketing ploy. Remember when Coke announced they were not going to sell the original anymore, people went crazy and hoarded, of course they then reintroduced Classic Coke and sales boosted from all the hysteria.

I need to get a camera then I'll be happy or one of those japanese ones I forget what its called but the pictures are the size of a business card or something

It's a pitty... Here where I live (Brasília, Brazil) it is impossible to find films to my two Polaroid cameras and I really miss the noise and the smell of the newly taken pictures.
