Little dog love

I know this little dog looks very innocent in this picture, but she's a fierce beast. How long does it take to housebreak a Pomeranian (never?). And what about the ankle biting?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

My little cat decided it was time I learned to litter train a fully grown cat. I'm so lucky. She acts like a little angel, but I know better.

SO cute, though! Little dogs are famously fearless and dictatorial. My mum has a Papillon, so I know. Full of personality, and generally worth the trouble, though! ox

You could try mustard on your ankles, but that's not pleasant for anyone. Afraid it'll have to be very thick socks and some shouting!

You mean those two no nonsense cats haven't discussed this with Lola?

As an owner of 2 small dogs I can vouch that little dogs are a force to be reckoned with!! They are love bugs but that little 8 lb bundle of joy will rule the house if she can! Obedient class is the way to go, they learn quick & it's fun for them. Do you watch the Dog Whisperer? Great show, he makes it look so easy. Beautiful little dog! ~Debby

look into clicker-training... it works well with little stubborn dogs, my mom's stubborn shih-tzu was trained very quickly with a clicker.

Try hanging a bell on your doors for him to tell you he needs to go out. Our second dog wasn't getting the whole potty training issue but every time I let him out I helped him ring the bell and he figured it out in a few days. My sister rescued a dog and he wasn't getting anything so she tied him around her waist so he was with her at all times (some dog show on tv used it) he hasn't had an accident in over a year now.

The ankle biting is way harder. I hate to say this because it always sparks comments. I bought a shock collar to keep our first dog from chasing rabbits. I used the shock 3 times and haven't needed to use anything but the warning beep. He doesn't even need to wear it just hear the sound and he does whatever I say. They cost about $100 at the store but you can get one on amazon. It was the best tool I have bought and worth the money.

Good Luck! Hope you get past the frustration!

We have had Corgis forever..They're herding dogs, so they nip at heels, and will chase your feet, UNTIL, you train them NOT to. Easier said than done, of course.
We took our last to the MSPCA training classes, and had a great experience.
When they chase your feet, or, come up behing you, (or sideways?) whatever, and nip, try shaking a tin can, like a band aid can, with pennies, or smalls stone in it and say "NO", in a very strong voice. The difference in your voice for commands is very crucial. Banging pots n' pans helps too. This sounds outrageous, but when you are training a pup, you need to keep these things available, AND, most important....
CONSISTENCY!!!! It must be consistent, just like children..
Well now, I've earned my self a wine!!!
Good luck Tina.. It'll be fine. I just know..

I have a Shitzu Pomeranian...she took forever to train but I promise one day it just "clicks". Hang in there. For the biting I used a spray bottle to get her to stop!

hahaahahaa, sorry for laughing but seeing the photo of a rather cute and cuddly animal and reading she is a fierce beast made me laugh. but i can relate to your problem. well going to dog school is always a good idea. you have to make a statement on who is the boss, or you will end up living in hell. dogs are like little children - allow them too much they will use it against you. it is more than welcome to love and adore your dog, but you have to be in charge. she has to be aware of that...

good luck and have a nice week :)

I have a pom/spaniel mix and I have given up on training him. He's also 4. I guess the solace lies in the fact that she's damn cute!!!

hahaha, aw she is so cute!!!! I found doing a loud yelp sound when they bite works well. This is how they learn to play nicely with their brothers and sisters. Worked with my Georgie and now she only "mouths" instead of biting

I have a black chihuaha(sp) pomeranian mix! She was a nightmare to train, it took about six months and it wasnt easy but stick with it, dogs are smart and they will eventually learn. Do not let her bite though! That's a very bad habit that will get out of control, be very stern however you choose with that! Good luck and congrats on your new love ball!

Try to train her patiently. This is the best thing you can do for your cute puppy.
