What are you reading??

I haven't been doing much reading, or blogging or anything except settling into my new job....
I need to get back into my old routine...

Any book suggestions!?

PS: What did you think of Colin Firth winning the Oscar!?

I'm currently reading (and enjoying) "A Return to Modesty" by Wendy Shalit. It's nonfiction but it's a compelling examination of women's roles and how modesty can be a more powerful tool than sexuality.

Oh yes, and I'm very happy that Colin Firth won the Oscar... about time =)

High praises for Colin Firth's win! He is exceptional.

I read constantly, and keep track of all my reading through this awesome website called Shelfari. Just google it, and if you'd like to find my profile, you can look up Melissa Kristine N. I've got a sunflower as my icon. Right now I'm reading 'Away' by Jane Urquhart, and Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. Both are amazing.

Thumbs up for Colin Firth. He was great. And I really enjoyed The King's Speech. It's a rare moment that I enjoy a movie. So much rubbish out there.
I keep track of my reading at my blog. I'm currently reading 'Jasper Jones' by Craig Silvey. It's quoted to be an Australian 'To Kill A Mockingbird'. I'm loving it so far. I'm also trying to get through David Mitchell's 'Cloud Atlas' but it's been torture.

I'm so happy Colin Firth won, The King's Speech was my favourite film of the year. I was lucky enough to be in London when it came out at the Film Festival, it was such a beautiful movie.

I'm currently reading 'Dangerous Liasons' by Pierre Choderlos De Laclos. I'm not sure if you've read it, but you may be familiar with the play based on it, like I was. Its an absolutely beautiful, sordid, morally challenging book which has been an absolute delight to read. The characters are so vibrant and well constructed, its already risen to one of my favourites and I would love more people to appreciate it.

I've recently come back to blogging and re-discovered your blog, which I'm putting on my link list of my new one. I love finding evidence of people who love literature as much as I do. :)

I'm so glad that Colin Firth has won a heap of awards for Best Actor. He plays great characters and is always exceptional in his roles.

I'm reading A Fortunate Life by A.B.Facey. I'm embarrassed that it's taken me so long to get around to reading it, because it is set in Western Australia and that's where I live! It is the story of hard work in harsh conditions, including making railway tracks, droving, farming, and being a World War I soldier.
It makes you realise how lucky we are in this century with all our luxuries! xx

Finished Mr Chartwell by Rebecca Hunt - extremely witty and heart-warming, just waiting for my copy of Andrew Graham-Dixon's Caravaggio and then I'll be out of the 21st century for a good few weeks!
Huzzah for Colin Firth: about flipping time!

Who doesn't adore Colin Firth? I swear I love him more every time I hear him speak.

I recently finished Never Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro. I loved it. Watched the movie this weekend and loved that too, but definitely read the book first.

Colin Firth OWNS me. That man is so graceful, he and his speech can have me. That's what I think of him. :)

I'm reading Room. It's really good, nothing like I've ever read before. Mary's suggestion (above) is great too. Never Let Me Go was so haunting. I thought about it for weeks afterwards, which is probably the affect Room will have on me, too.

Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush and Helen Bonham Carter are all incredibly fabulous in The Kings Speech.

Currently I am reading "Poser, my life in 23 Yoga Poses" by Claire Dederer - fantastic, so real and rich in discovery.
Also I am reading and going through Julia Cameron

"The Artist's Way" every creative should do this on an annual basis - amazing!

Same here! I actually took the time to make a weekly schedule in order to fit all of the things I want to do :)

I recommend "The Fountainhead" if you haven't read it, it's one of my all time favourite books.

As for the Oscars - I am very happy both with Colin Firth and Natalie Portman winning :)

I'm currently obsessing over Dracula by Bram Stoker. No wonder it's a classic! Plus, the eBook is available for free all over the place, and a paperback will run you around a dollar.

As for Colin, I'm very pleased. Both he and the film were superb.

Have you read Too Much Happiness by Alice Munro? I have a very short review of it at my site. I also just finished the Still Point by Amy Sackville, which is excellent and makes me want to visit the Arctic.
