(Same thing happening in DC, etc.) The motto. Yes. At the risk of TMI: I survived Beirut as a teenager at the start of the civil war in April 1975 (on holiday).

I survived a market bombing in Jerusalem in 1985; two friends, a colleague, & many others standing around me, did not survive. I was there on a Fulbright & could not, in the end, stay out the whole term. I returned to the States with much shame.

I survived the very public destruction of three close friends, was pilloried in the Washington Post & other periodicals for "not saving them." I still receive hideous emails from crazy people who've happened upon the articles or follow-up online "discussion" archives.

These are but a few examples. Close friends have said they don't know how I am still walking upright.

Well, some days I'm not upright but I will not give in.

When I was a little girl & worried about something (I had plenty to worry about but didn't show it), I used to say to myself, "At the end of tonight, I will be alive."

I continued that silent "I will still be alive tonight" mantra throughout my life until evidence to the contrary piled up. Too many people have not made it until the end of a particular, specific day. It's the kind of larger world-stage life I have led. I know better now.

But I do say, "things will work out. Somehow." They will because they have to. Of course, like your new motto, it doesn't promise material wealth, a parade in one's honor, etc. But that doesn't matter.

Yes, things will be OK. No matter what happens. We are fortunate because we do have advantages...& I'll bet we have at least one thing in common: good friends. Wouldn't have/can't make it without them. Quite literally at the moment, as they are keeping the resident feline in her food. And a lot of other things.

Deep breathe, talk to your friends, keep blogging.

xo, SusanGiuliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06569643363733791671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33547923613272710.post-40997206924409481122009-02-18T09:00:00.000-08:002009-02-18T09:00:00.000-08:00Right.
