Five For Friday

Hello everyone. I wanted to start something new here on the English Muse: A Friday round-up of some of my favorite posts from around the web. So here goes:

Girls on a train...Bleubird Vintage.

The ultimate thrift store find: A vintage hand-knitted dress -- for $5...Making Chicken Salad.

A lovely living room -- complete with botanical prints and the Virgin of Guadalupe...Daydream Lily.

Mismatched teacups...The Rockstar Diaries.

And Maggie Gyllenhaal as a 1940s siren...via Nellie Loves Vintage.

What do you have planned this weekend? I'm going to have brunch with my friend Elaine at Barneys in Beverly Hills before she heads back to Paris. (We both always end up ordering the scrambled eggs and salmon ... and champagne.) I'm also hoping to open a little boutique on Ebay this weekend to sell some of my own vintage finds! Will keep you posted if you'd like to visit...

English Muse: Week in Review

I think Los Angeles is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, which explains why I hated being stuck at my desk in the office...I always wanted to be out, meeting people and exploring. Now with my freedom and iPhone camera, I'm like a tourist of life.

So here's my little photo review of last week:
Driving along Wilshire Blvd. through MacArthur Park...

...the next day over to Hollywood and then to West Hollywood, for a meeting with the lovely Willow Bay...

...In Beverly Hills for lunch with Colin Firth. Wait, I just want to say that again: Lunch with Colin Firth!!! yipeee!!..(sorry)...regaining my composure...

...Over to Century City, to the Avenue of the Stars...

...Then back in the San Gabriel Valley (stopping in San Marino for a cupcake...)

...Of course I believe cupcakes are the perfect food...

...One of my former bosses at the paper used to tell me: There's no news in the newsroom. It's out there in the city...

Where you can feel the sun on your face...

(PS: I'm doing a profile of Colin for the LA Times. It's set to run in a couple weeks.)

Flea Market & Picnic in the Forest

These photos are from the awesome lifestyle photographer Roland Bello:

For me, this is the ultimate weekend fantasy...

A charming flea market in a little mountain town...

With a delicious lunch of garden veggies and berrys...

And amazing deals on books, and jewelry and colorful vintage gadgets.

Bliss.

I hope your weekend is blissful!

Happy Saturday

santa monica

Hello everyone. Happy Saturday! Hope you're having a lovely day. I wanted to share this Polaroid with you. I took it last week on the beach in Santa Monica. (You can sort of see the Ferris wheel in the background on the Santa Monica Pier).

What are you doing this weekend?

Happy Weekend!

Hello loves. We're leaving tomorrow for our little vacation cabin in the mountains. I can't wait! I'm packing up the vintage blankets and flannel sheets now....

I'm still debating on whether or not to take my macbook and go searching for WIFI. I'm not sure I can live without the Internet for a week. I'm also taking 20 magazines and several books, including Julia Child's memoir of her life in France. (Have you seen Julie and Julia yet?) I'm resisting the urge to bring art, lamps and rugs to decorate the place. Although I think it's essential to bring the vintage enamel orange teapot. As you can see, I'm quite a camper and I travel light.

See you in a week! While I'm gone, Ms. Pugly Feet is in charge!

xoxo

Happy Weekend

huntington

These beautiful photos of Huntington Gardens in San Marino were taken by my friend Scott Martelle, journalist, author and blogger.

The Huntington is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It has an extraordinary English rose garden, a Japanese garden, an Australian garden and a Chinese garden...

I want to go (and take my Holga 35 mm camera!)

What are you up to this weekend?

Hope you have a lovely weekend. I'm getting my hair done and then I'm going to an afternoon garden party! I've also resolved to listen to the stereo and avoid obsessive viewing of CNN. (I was watching until 1 am last night, fixated on every detail of Michael Jackson's death. Poor man.)

My very stylish friend Monica Corcoran posted this fantastic photo on her Facebook page today. Monica says: "Sunday is all about...the bed, the newspaper, and the breakfast. Monocle, optional."
LOVE IT!

Happy Weekend!

rosehardyflkr
Hello lovies, what are you doing this weekend? With my laundry crisis over, I plan to spend the weekend reading Lisa See's new book, Shanghai Girls! bliss...

PS: Photo by the fantastic Rosie Hardy. She's 18 years old and already an amazing photographer. (Her myspace page and flickr pages here.) Her work is not without some controversy and mystery, however. (Check it out here. And Rosie's response.)
