Would you rather have a circular staircase built of iron and stone?
Or a staircase lit by windows?
Or a staircase lined with books? (Or all of the above!) Another beautiful dilemma.
Comment from the lovely Jonathan Gold: "As the custodian of a grand staircase lined with books, I can attest that it feels less like aesthetic triumph than it does like a major organizational failing - I wasn't sure how to react when a friend told me this afternoon how much the house reminded her of the Please Don't Eat the Daisies set, which I suppose makes me David Niven. It does photograph well, though."
I'll take any spiral staircase, but as long as we're dreaming, I'll take on with windows and books. Spiral staircases are the backbones of dreams.
ReplyDeletewindows!
ReplyDeleteYes. That's all. Just yes.
ReplyDeleteI was swooning over a spiral staircase earlier on Sunday: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_C5ec5rz5Xyc/SYNzPWKpjBI/AAAAAAAAI2o/x3HSR3CsUrk/s1600-h/letras%20010%5B4%5D.jpg
Don't know if you can see it, but trust me, it's dreamy.
Truly, you find the most whimsical images. I'm torn between the 1st and the 3rd.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know what sorts of books are on the staircase in the third photo! Maybe Yeats or Neruda...
ReplyDeleteI love the book lined staircase, it reminds me of one of the stores in San Francisco. All three photos are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots!
ReplyDeleteI would love any stair that's open and full of light.
Although I must admit my dream house would be a Rancher ;-).
Wow! Wow! WoW!!! These are just too amazing!
ReplyDeletei have to go with windows, but i wouldn't say no to any of them! :)
ReplyDeleteOh can't I please have all of the above??
ReplyDeleteIf it's Neruda on the stairway--and it should be--I hope its a collection of the love poems. They're among the most wonderfully romantic verse from a century that appreciated romance far too little. Those poems read like they were meant to be punctuated with your sighs.
