After discovering where the bookstore photo (two posts below) came from, I decided to flip through the rest of MorBCN's amazing photos in
his Amsterdam flickr set. Look at the windows on these beautiful buildings, like glass-encased jewel boxes.
I'm ready to go to Amsterdam now! Who wants to go!? And, which one of these townhouses do you want to live in?! (Imagine climbing the stairs in the really skinny one on the top left!)

i want to go! in fact, i think i will be going in october - yayy!

I'm there. Well, okay I wish I was. It's one of my favourite places. Those photographs are very lovely. Oh, to be walking through those canal side streets. Don't even get me started on the flea market possibilities.
I've already packed my bags, when are we leaving!?
My husband lived in Amsterdam for a while, several of his friends were renting out house boats - they had so much fun there. He'll go crazy after I show him these photos. He always talks about tall, narrow houses and incredibly narrow stairs. And little cheese sandwiches called broodjes (that sounds like brooches). How cute is that.
I love these photos!
I love these, I've already picked out which one I would live in ;)
Thanks for sharing :)
ooh so pretty, I want to visit this place!
Oh,Amsterdam. If only. I just came across your blog. It's lovely!
These are stunning! I could look at them all day... I spent a couple of hours in Amsterdam a few years ago on my way to Paris and it was such tease of a visit! I would love to go back.
whoa thats beautiful!
wow what stunning pictures! I am going to Bruges next week but Amsterdam looks wonderful... Note to self, "go to Amsterdam"..
I just found your blog via the "blogs of note" and LOVE IT!
I was lucky enough to spend two months in Amsterdam back in 2002 and immediately recognized those lovely townhomes!
Ahh... thanks for the wonderful memories! Now, I just have to start saving for the return trip! =)
I've always wanted to go there....beautiful shots indeed.
Wow! Amazing. Thanks for digging these out for our enjoyment. Had a flight and hotel booked to Amsterdam when I lived in Europe but cancelled due to my son's allergies-it was high bloom season for tulips and we were warned about the pollen. Upon seeing these, wish I would have given him so Benedryl and packed him up anyway!
I would love to go to Amsterdam! The building I would like to be in is the navy blue one in the second picture.
YES. Let's go.
I'd take the a little left of center, with the red boat in front. I feel like it knows it's cool but doesn't feel the need to show it off as much as the other houses.
wow. nice shots!
Ah, Amsterdam... So lovely in so many ways. Yet so damn expensive. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I could. Thanks for the lovely, lovely photos... so evocative.
To Mary above - I've taken the train from Amsterdam to Bruges - it's a very short train ride!
(I too found this blog for its being a Blog of Note. I'm an immediate new follower!)
yay! thank you!!
Is there anything more magical than a lighted window, the suggestion of the cozy life within and the hope we all feel that it includes a welcome to the wayfarer? Your eye is a never ending source of pleasure to us all. Thanks.
Oh dear, I want those blown up and on my wall. Have you read John Irving's Widow For One Year? takes place in Amsterdam...
I lived in Europe and remember staying in a hotel like the tall narrow one you pointed out. Try climbing a spiral staircase with a heavy suitcase to the top of one of those buildings. Very charming. I love their cheese, coffee and bread.
wow. wow. and double wow. these photos are so romantic. reminds me of a life i want to live someday.
I actually gasped. So beautiful! I'm in. When do we catch our flight?
My favorite building is in the top photo, with all of the lights on - the second to shortest one, that narrows at the top. That top floor room would be the most dreamy studio ever!
I put you in my Friday Flux post as a blog crush :) Come see.
sigh.... i feel homesick now. thank you for the lovely post. for anyone who hasn't been, GO!

Love your site! This is my fiest exploration into the blog world. Would love to exchange links! Please come check me out as I am just getting started. Peace, Sarah
I went to Amsterdam last summer and feel in love with it. It's culture and night life are amazing, and the people are so sweet. It is by far my favourite city.
Thanks for sharing the photos!!
Those pictures are lovely and the last one is just around the corner from my house! If you visit I would love to show off this beautiful city.
No, no dont stay in an apartment. Stay on a barge in the canal and then you can look at the apartments. If you really are going I have a barge I can highly reccommend. Sleeps up to 6 and is right in between these magical canals full of jewelled windows.
i ♥ amsterdam. Highly recommended for a trip. I'll be going back in the summer (hopefully) and next february.
I just stumbled upon your blog and saw these photo's i just had to comment. I've been to Amsterdam and i must say it is actually the most beautiful and inspirational city i have ever been to. It's brimming with art studios and cafe's, Anne Franks house is there, Yes the actual house she and her family hid infrom the German Army WWII(but be warned it makes you cry)! and every road is lined with a small river. You must go it's beautiful!

re-call my memory...I went to Holand at 2006. good place...
and the pictures are really gorgeous!!
Beijos,
Furtado.
ooooh my goodness! such beautiful photos of Amsterdam. wish I could go again!
I love Amsterdam, I would move there if I could.
im swooning!! absolutely swooning!!
let's go, and get some great indonesian food while we're at it :)
Wonderful shots...I love the candy-coated colors that the photographer(s) were able to evince. I remember it as much more monochromatic in real life. My very, very BFF in the whole world lives outside Amsterdam...we meet in Paris now and then, but mostly we live through the internet these days!
wow these are gorgeous pictures
i was in amsterdam last year mainly coz my son wanted to visit anne franks house. anyhow, while we there, we saw people move house. given the thinness of the buidlings, the indigenous population have developed the most efficacious crane system for moving furniture (that simply doesnt fit through the doors and confined staircases/halls) out through the windows. further, as long as you remember that amsterdam is basically set in the shape of a semi circular amphitheatre, with three parallel layers forming the seating as it were, then you wont get lost! reading this has inspired me to describe the train trip i took from london to moscow, again with my 10 year old son, two years ago. that was, well, fun!
Lovely pictures!
Such lovely pics, I love Amsterdam. On my gap year I went for 3 days and stayed 3 months!
I love all the tall town houses, and as far as I know the reason the houses are so tall and thin is that they used to be taxed on how wide they are.
I wouldn't mind going to amsterdam. I have relatives in northern Italy. I wouldn't mind seeing them. Oh, the wonder of space the natural things all around us.
popped by for a random visit and i'm very glad i did - drooling at these beautiful beautiful pics! thanks for sharing eri x
