I know it's not Polaroid...
But maybe it will do?
Once all the Polaroid film in the world is gone? Do you think Fuji will work?
I was dismayed to discover that my local source of Polaroid film (at $18.99 a pack!) was running out....I figured I would give the Fuji Instax 200 a try...It doesn't have the quirkiness of Polaroid (the weird light patterns, the spots, etc), but it is still instant...
I know I should get a good digital camera and forget about it. But I can't. I can program an HTML but I can't seem to figure out all those buttons and settings on a fancy camera!
UPDATE: Comment from lovely Magda:
"Actually there's a hope that there will be new polaroid films produced...
there's this impossible project http://www.the-impossible-project.com/beta/ and besides this month the Polaroid company is going to be sold and it's possible that the new owner will produce films again !"
I hope so!!
PS: The photos above are from my front yard :)

Accually there's a hope that there will be new polaroid films produced...

I kind of like the panoramic view this film gives though! I'm with you though on the use of real film. I like my digital camera but I do miss my 35mm (it was a crappy drug store brand but loved it).
Why don't you buy a used/refurbished/cheap digital camera which you could mess with? that way if you break it, it wasn't too expensive and at least now then you'd know how to use the buttons.
I've heard that about polaroid. and don't be scared of DSLRs. They love you too. And if that doesn't work for you - try a holga - not instant but still lovely results.
Tina, I thought it was a done deal. Factory refurbishing near Amsterdam had begun as of late last year. Read about it in swissmiss (?)& NYTimes. Maybe I was dreaming?
And for those who are sad about their cameras (not Tina, others)...I have to make do with no working camera. Scanning old photos & saturating & pretending their arty. And photogs around the world who allow me to use theirs. I ain't complainin'
There are worse things. (Oh & you inspired a tulle post...)
I really hope they will start producing again! Just yesterday my aunt got me 4 packages of film (instead of the 2 I askes... auch I will have to save on food this month!) at one of the few shops in belgium that still sells polaroid... 25$ a pack though :( Why does it have to be so expensive?!
Now I'm wondering, what do you do with your polaroids? Have you got a special 'polaroid wall'?
I just learned about the impossible project when my fiance found an old Polaroid camera he had forgotten he had. There was one pack of film in the camera case and it definitely made me want to have a Polaroid guestbook. Hopefully the price will be more affordable when the factory starts making the film again!
I have polaroids posted all over my refrigerator. Will post photos on it!!
Have you seen this digital polaroid camera...it's cool cos you can get rid of the duds before you print :)
Mind you it's the excitement of wondering what is going to come out that is the essence of polaroid pics.

I was just discussing this with my sister. I'm glad you found an alternative!
the third picture is beautiful. it looks so vintage.
i'm sorry to hear about your polaroid ): it's so sad!
omg that would be soo great! it really is sad that its starting to fade. i've seeing more and more ppl that love polaroid, there seems to be a big enough following to still keep it around. I really hope so. i don't have a polaroid,i want one sooo bad, it does get expencive tho. and i'm not about to buy it if it won't even be around anymore!
those are a nice substitute!
wow...so much info from the comments...Fantastic! Whatever it is, Polaroid is still iconic, I still remember my very first one! Great weekend...hope it's a peaceful one! ~CHEERsss*
How pretty!
What a sweet post. Your photos remind me of early colour experiments pre-polaroid and co. They have a warm authenticity to them. Keep the Fuji.
i think these are just as lovely! your yard looks amazing... great blog!
these are lovely. yes, i heard that polaroid will continue, fingers crossed!
polaroids are my number one love and i will be devestated when i run out
i'm putting all my hope in the impossible project, fingers crossed!
There's hope for the polaroid, yet. Polaroids are my first love. A company in the netherlands will continue its production for another 10 years with hope for more. It's not dead...yet!

I just got my first polaroid. I am hooked...and well worth the cost of film. Luckily France and Belgium seem to be fairly well stocked still...
You may really want to look into http://www.poladroid.net/
It is a very fun piece of software. You drag your digital photos onto a polaroid camera and then it produces a polaroid-like version. You can even use your mouse to shake and develop the pictures. The detail is great. The colour distortion and other defects are part of the package. Really quite fun.
