I didn't get any books for Xmas. None! My husband said he thought about getting me a Kindle but then opted for a GPS device for my car. Sigh.
What about you? Did you get any books (and which ones!?)
Btw, at the moment I'm reading Kazuo Ishiguro's Nocturnes. It's marvelous.

You didn't get any books at all? Sad.
I got a year's subscription to Persephone Books, a year's subsciption to the London Review of Books, Fresh, The Hare with the Amber Eyes, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, What Einstein Told His Cook, and Man Man and Philosophy. Now I just need more reading time.
I didn't get any either except from 'where's the stig?'. I want find more out about these kindles. At the moment i'm reading Little Women on my ds :)
I got Angela Carter's wayward girls and wicked women, laura dockrill's echoes, Stories edited by Neil Gaiman, and My mother she killed me, my father he ate me; a compilation of modern fairy tales. Will keep me going til next Xmas i think!
google maps works great on my smartphone. take back the GPS and get some books (and then give them away next year)!!
i just read Steve Martin's "An Object of Beauty" ... took me 71 pages to get into it, but it's nice. i'm sure another "Shop Girl" is in the making here.
happy new year's, Tina!
i got two books from my boyfriend... both fun coffee table-esq reads:: http://cornflakedreams.blogspot.com/2010/12/so-thankful.html
xoxo jcd
I didn't get any books either :(
Gaaw
I love receiving books
I did, however, get vouchers and money which will go towards breaking into that reading list
I got Second Nature by Michael Pollan. I'm liking it a lot.
I got lots of gift cards to Barnes & Noble and Borders so with them I purchased:
-John Connolly's "The Book of Lost Things"
-Melanie Benjamin's "Alice I Have Been"
-Nancy Etcoff's "Survival of the Prettiest: The Science of Beauty"
-Gail Carriger's "Soulless"
I've started reading the last one which got pretty good reviews on GoodReads, I'm liking it so far! Hope you had a lovely holiday otherwise :)
No books, either!! I am a little bummed. However, I have big New Year's reading planned for 2011 and I'm stoked. :)
I got books-craft ones that were a surprise and novels that I picked for myself :). My family knows by now to just give me a gift card or let me choose some books. It's easier that way--and I always forget what I picked (since I always debate about fifty different titles before making up my mind), so I get surprised anyway!
I have Middlemarch, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Reflections in a Golden Eye, The Kite Runner, and Sylvia Plath's Ariel, which I've been longing for for some time. It was a good Christmas around here. I will say this--my husband opted for the craft books, because he never knows which novels I have and have not read or purchased already. I'm thinking your husband may have similar reasons :).
I got quite a few books this year one about gardening, another historical novel, an autobiography on my favourite soccer player and two other silly teenager based books.
I didn't get any either, BUT I did get an Amazon voucher! I'm going to buy a book on Abstract painting techniques. At the moment I am reading a most cheesy, yet very entertaining book of short stories called 'Christmas with a Vampire'. Yes, I know... but hey we can't read Austen and Dickens every day!!
Oh no! I commiserate about no Christmas books. I spent a very luxurious day reading Patti Smith's Just Kids (as hoped), which I highly recommend. It's a wonderful portrait of both her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe and also a unique period in New York's artistic history. Grab a copy in the new year if you can!
My mom got me two books that I have yet to start reading. One is called Dreamkeepers. It is about an Aboriginal tribe and their journey. The second one is called A Chorus of Stones. It depicts of the roles of gender during war.
Also got Just Kids. The surprising The Tiger by John Vaillant.
I got Marilyn Monroe's Fragments, and I'm very excited about getting to read it. There was a ton of books I could have wished for but I'm trying to save up for a camera so most of my presents was money.. :)
No books? Well that's a bummer! Come to think of it, I didn't get any either. I really wanted to get my hands on Jonathan Safran Foer's "Tree of Codes", but it's been on back order for so long, no one in my family could find it anywhere! So I have an "I.O.U." from my brother. The anticipation is killing me.
My wonderful son works at Border's and got us all books :) I got Stieg Larsson's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. I'm embarrassed to admit I hadn't read them yet but I'm thrilled to have them now! I'll probably get The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest in April for my bday.
I got The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson. I'm still trying to finish the last 60 pages of Catch-22 so I can move on to it. I also got a Pandigital Novel (similar to a Kindle), which is pretty fun. Sorry you didn't get the Kindle, but keep your fingers crossed for the next event. Real books are better anyway ;.)
I ordered a slew of spiritual books from my gift amazon cards. I'm currently reading Mrs.Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. It's good but have to read slowly with the whole stream of consciousness writing she does.
Freedom, by Jonathan Franzen. Maybe it's old news, but that's the one!
I got a french biogrpahy on Gabrielle Chanel. With lovely pictures and all that, but most of all it has renewed my interest in the french language.
I DID get a couple of books for Christmas! I got "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff and "The Te of Piglet"...and Winnie the Pooh creation based off of the teachings in "The Tao Te Ching" So far, I think it's a cute and easy read, offering some well-written advice for gaining inspiration as we walk through life. I also received a new journal within which I am writing letters to my beloved whom I have recently been separated due to living circumstances with miles and miles between us. There's no better gift than a good journal!
