What I'm reading....

I just started "The Man Who Invented the Computer," by Jane Smiley (yes, that Jane!).
It's fascinating so far.

I'm such a computer geek. Of all the profiles I've written, one of my favorites is about Michael Heilemann, who created WordPress' Kubrick theme. I love the backstory of the Internet.

What are you reading this week?

I just finished reading The Power of Your Subconscious Mind (by Joseph Murphy), and now I'm halfway through The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living
(by Dalai Lama XIV, Howard C. Cutler).

What do you think of your book so far?

Just finished 'The Lollipop Shoes' by Joanne Harris and now reading 'Either-Or' by Søren Kierkegaard volume 2. I'd bet that will last me forever - or at least 'till starting of summer. So difficult to read and you have to be on your feet or you wont understand it at all..
However, you look really cool reading it in public! :D

Last week I finished The Adults by Alison Espach and loved it. It's very subtle yet funny. Tonight I'm starting Bossypants -- I wanted something easy & funny. Recently I read Just Kids and The Object of Beauty and loved them.

The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt. Some of my favorite book bloggers loved it, I'm on page 180 and still not quite feeling it yet. The writing is excellent but I'm still waiting for the storyline to grab me.

I've just finished Mink River. It's the wonderfully eclectic story of this town on the Oregon coast. It switches between different narrative, very reminiscent of Faulkner, but not as tough to get through. I highly recommend it.

Anyways, now I'm on to The Wilder Life.

I am still plowing through the Mark Twain autobiography but as it weighs 10,000 lbs and I'm traveling this week, I've decided to re read "I Capture the Castle". For some reason, it was beckoning to me from the book shelf. "The Man Who Invented the Computer" looks interesting- thanks for the rec.

Best,
S.P.

John Atanasoff is a Bulgarian! I don't know if he was proud of it at all (ha!) but here everyone is very proud of him :) We even have a huge monument at the center of the city.
I should really get this book :)
