A Tiny Perfect Loft

Hello — Lori of automatism here again! Today I'm sharing an amazing space that I featured a while ago on my own blog, but one definitely well worth a revisit. This stylish mini-loft is, amazingly, only 57 square metres in size, but it feels as airy and bright as one four times bigger. Architect Philippe Harden bought a partitioned, narrow corridor-like apartment because he loved the view from the large windows, which open onto a park. After two months of work (spent mostly removing doors and walls) he has what you now see here — a serene, light filled environment. Look carefully and you can see how he makes every inch of space work, yet it still feels relaxed and effortless. One of my absolute favourite spaces from Marie Claire Maison.

A Magazine Favorite: Camping with Style

camp

Normally I would be posting on Domino tonight, but I got distracted by these photos in the newest issue of Country Living. It was the Cath Kidston tent (above) that did it...

camp

Or maybe it's because my secret dream is to live in a little cabin somewhere...

camp

I just flipped over these photos...

camp

I'm really longing to go to our little rental cabin in the High Sierras.

I don't know if I'll make it this year, but I'm so daydreaming...

These very cute newlyweds, Naomi and Josh (aka Taza and the Prince), have one of the best couples blogs on the Internet (I think!) They post
gorgeous pictures -- taken with Polaroid, Holga and Diana cameras -- of their various trips to exotic locales.

It's a Lomographic feast!

It also made for a wonderful visual escape at the hospital today, where I spent six hours with my dad, who underwent a blood transfusion to address his severe anemia. (Thank you Huntington Hospital for having free Internet service!) Throughout the day, I showed him my favorite blogs and read him your amazing, beautiful comments. (He thinks you're all lovely!)

I wish I could adequately tell you how much I appreciate/love/need/cherish your kind words of support.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
so much. so much.

A Domino Favorite: Small Space Color

Domino: Small Space Color

I just want to say that I'm completely in love with this hot pink kitchen...

domino

Although this green dining room is nice too...

Domino: color

I'm continuing my new Sunday tradition of posting old Domino articles. I hope you like this one. It appeared in the April 2006 issue. Domino says: "Brighter rooms, happier you." Do you think that's true? Maybe I have too many white walls in the house!

(Here's the link to my previous Sunday Domino posts. And click the photos above to view them large on my Flickr page.)

A couple other things:

Congratulations Liss at Daydream Lily for being named a Blogger.com "Blog of Note"! Men from all over the world have been proposing to Liss in the wake of the honor. She has wisely started screening her messages.

And thank you Veronique at Here in Malibu for telling me about TweetDeck. Although I'm now living on Twitter, I have a long way to go before I catch up with Ashton Kutcher! (Please follow me before #moonfruit crashes Twitter.)

Have a great Monday everyone!

The Paris Apartment

Found in an old issue of Marie Claire Maison is a profile of a luminous Paris apartment...

My favorite details: The painting of the woman in the yellow dress over the mantel in the pink salon; the mirrors and art in the kitchen; the red painted bookshelf (with books facing forward); the deco vase filled with knitting needles; and the cat perched on a stool.

The article -- a bit tattered from hanging on one of my inspiration boards -- appeared in the May/June 2008 issue of Marie Claire Maison. Photography by Adrien Dirand.

Shokoofeh

So many of us have been very concerned about our dear friend Shokoofeh at the blog A New Simple Something. It's not easy to be a young woman blogger in the country where she lives, especially now. I was very relieved to see that she was able to update her blog today with this beautiful picture. She is so brave and I'm so proud to know her.

The link to her lovely blog { here }.

UPDATE: A note from Shokoofeh:

"My heart has became an assortment of pain, hope, love and fear.
I don't know if you can feel what I am talking about. your country, your land, your people, your future, your love are just not in your hands and your heart is beating for them...
it's not easy. it's not easy at all...
but you and other lovely people are relieving our pain just by thinking about us ... and it's admirable indeed..."

dear, dear girl. please be safe

A Domino Favorite: Secondhand (Love) Story

Domino: secondhand (love) story

I've been organizing my magazines this weekend -- finally finding all my old Dominos. I rediscovered this article that I loved so much when it came out in March 2007

Domino: secondhand (love) story

It's a fantastic piece about a Portland, ME, couple's quest for quirky, mostly vintage, things...

Domino: secondhand (love) story

I adore the colorful patchwork of pillows...and this amazing closet with old paper lanterns...

Domino: secondhand (love) story

I've posted the entire article on my flickr page, in large form if you want to read it. I'm hoping to turn my Domino revisits into a Sunday series here. What do you think?

The Blog as a Force of Nature

craig-mcdean-photography-1-600x385

Looking for an afternoon pick-me-up? Check out this blog, Trend Land. Have you seen it yet? It's a fantastic, dizzying experience. Sort of like seeing a blog in 3D on high def.

Anne Hathaway, Katarina at Lolita

DTeGzzj2Qo8qofxlSHSP49iDo1_500
I'm always dazzled by the images Katarina at Lolita finds for her blog (Lolitas.se) and her tumblr, Tatielle. It's one of the most original collections on the Internet. I love this image (above) on Tatielle of Anne Hathaway against a Fornasetti backdrop.

I met Katarina, via email, when I first started blogging and she was wonderfully helpful and kind. Recently, Sophie at Fix on This did an article on her. She is beautiful (photo below) and immensely creative. She's been studying theatre in Stockholm (she's graduating next week) and talent runs in her family (her mother is a fashion illustrator.)

Here's the link to her interview.

Bliss

Hello everyone, I spent the day trying to organize the millions of magazines in my work studio. It's a task that will never be finished. I always get distracted and end up sitting on the floor reading. I found an old issue of Australian Vogue Living from two years ago. As I flipped through the pages I instantly remembered why I bought it: It was for these photos (above), of Linda Gregoriou's home in Sydney. The objets in the top photo are beyond beautiful: The antique Chinese screen, the pink peonies, the bright painting, the turquoise Balinese pot. Then the following photos: The memo chandelier and the tattered rug. The art, the flowers, the white floor, more pink. Bliss!!
